Locus was once more proud to host the New Zealand dates of the 2017 FME World Tour events.
This was the 7 th year we have held the one-day events and in 2017 we returned to Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
As with previous years, attendance continued to grow with approximately 140 attendees across the three events. These numbers would have been higher if not for two days of fog in Wellington which prevented a number of registered attendees being able to fly in which was a real shame.
We welcomed Steve MacCabe from SAFE Software as our guest speaker, but he too was affected by the Wellington fog and was only able to make the Auckland event. Hopefully the “weather Gods” will play nicely in 2018.
This year we asked and received the kind permission of the Auckland and Wellington Councils to have representatives engage in other World Tour events as well as in their “home towns”. We were delighted that Darren George (Auckland Council) and Kirsten Brown (Wellington Council) were able to join us.
Hearing from Darren about the FME journey undertaken by Auckland Council pre & post the advent of the “Super City” was a real highlight, as was Kirsten’s usage of FME to interact with RAMM which has been a challenge for many.
Other highlights included the always entertaining and informative technical talks from Gary Nicholson, Mike Oberdries, Kim Ollivier, Todd Davis and Ekki Scheffler. Ekki in particular regaled us about being the first person to use FME down in Antarctica which was “cool” (pardon the pun) for SAFE Software as well as Locus.
This year we also welcomed Jan Roggisch who spoke about the use of FME at Alpine Energy.
It’s a major effort to put together presentations and we appreciate all the hard work put in by our presenters this year.
We look forward to bringing you the 2018 events once more and to seeing you there.
